Enterprise Group Commissions New Maternal Health Unit at Sunyani Municipal Hospital

Enterprise Group has commissioned a new Reproductive, Child Health and Family Planning Unit at the Sunyani Municipal Hospital in the Bono Region, replacing an ageing maternity block with a modern facility built for the region's expectant mothers and their newborns. The commissioning brought together traditional leaders, health officials, community members and Enterprise Group representatives.

Building the Unit
The GH₵2.4 million project involved the complete demolition and reconstruction of the original maternity structure, which had served the hospital for years but was no longer fit for modern healthcare delivery. The new block is larger and better equipped, with washrooms, a waiting area, a child bath and a cold room. Each of these additions supports both the mothers who use the unit and the health workers who care for them.

Why Sunyani
For Enterprise Group, the choice of Sunyani was deliberate. Speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors and Executive Management, Group Chief Financial Officer Mr Michael Tyson explained that the Group set out to reach a community where the need was real rather than one where it was already highly visible. "We chose Sunyani very deliberately," he said. "While our presence here may not yet be as extensive as in other regions, we believe that impact should not be limited to where we are most visible. It should extend to where the need is real and the opportunity to make a difference is meaningful."
Mr Tyson noted that far too many mothers across the country still face difficult conditions in maternity facilities weighed down by overcrowded wards, ageing infrastructure and overstretched staff. As a group that provides life insurance, pensions, health insurance, general insurance and real estate, he said Enterprise Group exists to protect families and prepare them for life's uncertainties. "Every mother deserves to give birth in safety and dignity. Every child deserves the best possible start to life," he said. "Our rallying call is 'Enterprise, Your Advantage.' Today, that advantage is reflected in this facility."

A Renewed Promise for the Community
Dr Richard Adinkra-Kyeremeh, Municipal Director of Health Services at the Sunyani Municipal Hospital, described the facility as far more than an upgrade to infrastructure. "This facility is more than new walls and a roof. It is a renewed promise to the women of this community that their lives matter, that their safety in childbirth matters, and that institutions are willing to put resources behind that promise," he said. "We are deeply grateful to Enterprise Group for choosing Sunyani and for building something that will outlast all of us in this room."
The Omanhene of the Sunyani Traditional Council, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, gave his blessing to the project and thanked the Group on behalf of his people. He noted that a community's greatest treasure is its women, and that any investment in their wellbeing is an investment in the community itself. "Enterprise Group has done what true partners do. They came not with empty words but with action," he said. "Our mothers will now bring forth life in a place worthy of them."

Why It Matters
Maternal and newborn health remains one of the most pressing areas of need in Ghana's healthcare system, where many facilities operate well beyond the capacity they were built for. Safe, well-equipped delivery environments have a direct bearing on the outcomes of mothers and children, particularly in regions where specialised infrastructure has historically been limited. The Sunyani unit is intended as a lasting contribution to that need rather than a one-off gesture.

Where This Sits in Our CSI Agenda
Enterprise Group's Corporate Social Investment agenda rests on three pillars: Health, Philanthropy and Financial Literacy, through which the Group directs its commitments to the communities it serves. The Sunyani Reproductive, Child Health and Family Planning Unit sits within the Health and Philanthropy pillars, joining a portfolio that includes the construction of mechanised boreholes across all sixteen regions of Ghana, the donation of incubators to the Keta Hospital, financial literacy programmes for students, parents and teachers, support for the Accident Victims Support Foundation, donations to the African Marrow Registry, and support for the rehabilitation of the Ghana Military's dining facility.
At Enterprise, we are committed to building a better tomorrow for all in line with our Mission to provide all who come into contact with us their desired Advantage, because we are the best at what we do.
